YEA!™Youth Epilepsy Advocates!™ - Presentation | July 10th, 2010
Later today, at 5:00, we will be presenting to a group about our subject of Photosensitive Epilepsy. We hope that from this presentation, more people will know about this condition and that we can spread the knowledge that we have in this field. It will also be interesting to present to some teenages who actually have Epilepsy! For more information on the organization managing this event for us to present to, follow this link: [click]
Internationals done; continuations? | May 25th, 2010
The ninth through the 14th all three of us were is San Jose, California presenting our project. We just want to take a moment to thank all of the sponsors of ISEF for making it a one-in-a-kind experience for all of us, and encouraging us to delve further into different science fields.
In the fair, we got a special award, third place, presented by the American Phychological Association! This award includes a subscription to the associations' magazine, a 16 month subscription, keeping us updated in this great field of science. We also got $500 to split amongst us in award money. Thanks, APA!
On another note, we hope that we can take this project to other levels in years to come. Alexander hopes he can team up with the TRACE center in order to create an open source version of the PEAT software for other platforms and allowing public source code contributions. Annelise and Mariah are still unsure if and how they would like to continue their research and studies into Photosensitive Epilepsy.
We are also unsure of if we want to work as a group, create (a) modified group(s) to continue research, or stick together as on this project. While we all agree we worked incredibly well as a team, the consequences and sacrifices in order to collaborate as a team is hard with school and extracurricular activities.
In other news, pictures of us at ISEF should be added to the gallery soon!
State completed | April 2nd, 2010
We had lots of fun going through state, but rather than just enjoying it, we've gotten a lot out of it! As well as proceeding to get 1st in the Medicine and Health category and being nominated for best of fair, we got a $5,500 yearly renewing scholarship to the University of Oregon. We also have hardened our knowledge and presentation through the judges' questions.
We're going Internationals. | March 4th, 2010
We presented our project in the Portland Public Schools Science Expo in hopes of rising into the state-level North West Science Expo, and if we did well enough, getting best in fair and going directly to Internationals, the International Science and Engineering Fair by Intel.
We managed to get best in our regional fair, and so we'll be attending the state fair for fun, as well as the international fair!
